Resilient North

Experiences from the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by war in Europe and increased geopolitical tensions, have highlighted the need to strengthen societal preparedness in multiple areas. The Total Preparedness Commission's NOU "Now It’s Serious – Prepared for an Uncertain Future" emphasizes Northern Norway as strategically important but also vulnerable, and underscores the need for increased knowledge about food security and measures for food preparedness.

The Resilient North project aims to generate more knowledge about the relationship between food, the environment, and public health in Northern Norway in light of a renewed threat landscape in the northern regions.

This knowledge will help ensure that the region and Norway as a whole are better prepared to handle various situations and changes that may arise.

We will define relevant scenarios for food production from both sea and land based on potential threats and situations. We will then examine how different food security scenarios may affect nutrition, disease risk, and public health. The project also includes research on the role of food producers and their local communities in the north to enhance food security and overall preparedness.
