Welcome to UiT The Arctic University of Norway!

There are certain things you must do before your arrival to norway such as acceptance of your offer of admission, applying for housing, payment of tuition fees (if applicable), apply for visa (if applicable), planning your insurance, signing up for the orintation programme (Debut WEEK International, etc..

You must activate your UiT user account to access UiT's digital services, including email, Canvas, StudentWeb, and My Page.

Before you start

✅ Make sure you have access to the mobile phone number you registered in Application Web (Søknadsweb). ⚠️If your phone number has changed or is incorrect, you can update it yourself by logging in to Application Web and editing your profile information before attempting to activate your account.

⚠️ Some students from Asia and Africa may need to obtain a Norwegian mobile phone number after arrival before they can activate their account.

How to activate your account

1. Open the email with the subject "Aktivere UiT brukerkonto – Activate UiT user account".

2. Click "Activate account".

3. Select "Cannot use ID-porten".

4. Follow the instructions on the webpage.

IT services and softwares for students

✅ Before you start:

  • Semester fee: NOK 710
  • Deadline for Autumn semester (August–December): 1 September
  • Deadline for Spring semester (January–June): 1 February

Who is exempt?
Incoming exchange students and joint-degree students on Erasmus+ mobility do not need to pay the semester fee.

The semester fee is paid to the Arctic Student Welfare Organisation (Samskipnaden) and gives you access to a range of student welfare services.

The fee includes a voluntary contribution of NOK 40 to SAIH (The Norwegian Students’ and Academics’ International Assistance Fund). If you do not wish to contribute, you may reduce the payment amount from NOK 710 to NOK 670 before completing your payment.


📝 Step 1: Create and pay your invoice in Studentweb

Please pay the semester fee as early as possible and no later than the applicable deadline.

  1. Log in to : Studentweb .
  2. Select Payments from the top menu.
  3. Choose Create invoice.
  4. Use the invoice details provided to complete your payment.

⚠️ Before you pay

  • Check that the IBAN, BIC/SWIFT code, and invoice number are entered correctly.
  • If you are paying through a Norwegian bank, make sure you enter the correct KID number.
  • Incorrect payment information may delay registration of your payment in Studentweb.

🌍 Step 2: Paying from outside Norway

  • Contact your local bank or money transfer service if you need assistance.
  • Make sure the correct exchange rate to Norwegian kroner and any transfer fees are included in the payment.
  • Allow up to 12 days for international payments to be processed.

💰 Step 3: Request a refund (if you do not start your studies)

If you decide not to begin your studies at UiT, you may apply for a refund of the semester fee.

Refund deadlines

  • Autumn semester: 1 October
  • Spring semester: 1 March

Deadlines for semester registration

  • 1 September for autumn semester (August - December).
  • 1 February for spring semester (January - June).

Deadlines for withdrawal from exams:

  • 14 days before exam.

Digital student ID

  • Download the Student ID app.
  • Log in with your UiT account.
  • Use the ID for student discounts and documentation.

Access card

Your access card is used for:

  • Library borrowing
  • Printing
  • Campus access
  • Identification on campus

Bring a passport or valid photo ID when collecting your access card from the Student Information Desk.

Police registration and residence permits

  • Non-EU/EEA students normally need a study permit.
  • EU/EEA students may need police registration.
  • Nordic students do not need to register.
