Populærvitenskapelig sammendrag av avhandlingen:
This project examined how alcohol consumption affects cancer risk and mortality using data from the national cohort Norwegian Women and Health Study (NOWAC). The findings suggest that moderate alcohol drinking (>2 to 7 drinks/week) can increase the risk of postmenopausal breast cancer and can decrease the risk of kidney cancer and overall mortality. However, the overall impact of alcohol on health depends on various factors, and there is no evidence that the potential benefits of moderate alcohol drinking outweigh the risks at individual level. The project recommends following the national guidelines, which advise drinking as little as possible to minimize health risks.
