Populærvitenskapelig sammendrag av avhandlingen:
Acquired brain injury (ABI) is a major cause of disability, often leaving individuals with long-term challenges after returning to the community. Although ongoing rehabilitation after discharge is beneficial, access to relevant services is often limited, especially in rural areas where workforce shortages, long distances, and fragmented services create additional barriers.
This doctoral thesis aims to explore challenges and propose solutions related to the provision of long-term rehabilitation services for individuals with ABI in rural areas, with a particular focus on North Norway. Through a review of literature on rehabilitation models and analyses of data from collaborative workshops with key stakeholders, it identifies gaps in both research and service provision. The thesis also proposes solutions to enhance long-term rehabilitation and community integration of individuals with ABI, including a framework for team-based organisation tailored to the rural context of North Norway.
