Double presentation in connection with Hosea Masaki's PhD defence.

Professor Eva C. Sonnenschein is the head of a marine microbial ecology group that explores microbial interactions in marine ecosystems for uncovering molecular mechanisms that drive the function and structure of microbial communities. In her presentation she will focus on omics techniques and how they can be applied to find novel, sustainable solutions with relevance to biotechnology, ecology and marine conservation.

Researcher Ella Thoen uses molecular methods to study microbial diversity, functions, and ecology in terrestrial ecosystems, with a particular interest in poorly known groups of fungi.
In her presentation she will share her insight in high throughput sequencing of microorganisms with a focus on the increasingly applied long-read sequencing techniques and how it helps us to get deeper insights into the hidden diversity of microbial communities.
