There are limited spots for the conference dinner, and you can register for it separately from conference registration but on the same page (here).
The main attraction in Tromsø (and Norway in general) is the beautiful nature, which we all enjoy through hiking (on foot, on skis, by boat, by bike, on horseback, etc). The local team of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) has a website on which you can find numerous hikes in the region, with an interactive map (norwegian).
The UiT campus is located on the island of Tromsø (Tromsøya) - an island about 10 km long. The top of the island (meaning the middle part that is higher in altitude than the coastline) has a more or less a continuous hiking trail, which is the illuminated ski trail (Lysløypa). From campus you can reach this trail quite easily and then walk to either the north (Varden) or the south of the island (Telegrafbukta).
If you want to explore further, you can go either to the mainland or the the islands on the other side (Kvaløya wil be the starting point). A very popular hike is the one that leads you up the cable car station on the mainland, called Sherpatrappa (the cable car is closed for renovations and will open on July 7th).
Staying on campus, you can participate to one of the organised "art walks" tours (more info will come very soon) as well as visit the botanical garden or the reindeer enclosure (to be confirmed, we are checking of there will be animals at the time of EuroSLA).
Are you planning a hike? Give us a heads-up and we will make a registration for other guests to be able to join if you wish so!

You can swim in the sea..if you dare! People usually swim at Telegrafbukta, on the south of the island. Please be careful: it is very, very important to not stay in the water too long (you will loose feeling in your limbs - it's better to run in and run out several times) and properly warm yourself up afterwards.
You can also try the artic waters if you go to the Vulkana Spa (located in the city center), by jumping from the boat, or at the swimming pool (Tromsøbadet), which has a little pool at outside temperature. Both places have saunas and jacuzzis to drive the arctic chill away.
