Populærvitenskapelig sammendrag av avhandlingen
Our hearts do not all age at the same speed. Researchers have developed a way to measure the age of heart by using an electrocardiogram (ECG) and an artificial intelligence algorithm. In this PhD, standard ECG tests from thousands of participants in the Tromsø Study were analysed with artificial intelligence to estimate each person’s “heart age”. By comparing heart age with real age, I studied whether people with less education or long-term patterns of high blood pressure, cholesterol and obesity have an older heart, and whether this predicts heart attack, stroke and early death. if this algorithm remain robust against algorithmic or data changes. The results show that an older-looking heart is linked to higher risk, and that social and lifestyle factors throughout life may speed up heart ageing. And based on the available 3 models (with algorithmic and data changes) the heart age agree well indicating the model’s reliability. This knowledge can help target prevention earlier, robustly and more fairly.
