Planning your finances before arriving at UiT is an important part of preparing for your exchange stay. This page provides information about tuition fees, living costs, student deposit accounts, grants, and scholarships.

Incoming exchange students from partner institutions are exempt from tuition fees and semester fees at UiT.


Norway is generally considered an expensive country. Your actual expenses will depend on your lifestyle, accommodation, travel habits, and personal spending.

This section applies mainly to students from outside the EU/EEA who require a residence permit to study in Norway.

You may be required to transfer funds to a Norwegian student deposit account to document that you have sufficient financial resources during your stay.

The deposit account is used to satisfy financial documentation requirements established by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI).

🎓 Grants and scholarships

Many exchange students are eligible for grants or scholarships through their home university, exchange programme, government, or external organisations.


The Erasmus+ Grant helps students cover travel and living expenses during an exchange period abroad.

Available to students from:

  • EU countries
  • Türkiye
  • North Macedonia
  • Serbia
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein
  • Norway

The grant amount depends on:

  • Cost of living in the host country
  • Distance travelled
  • Number of students receiving funding
  • Other financial support received

⚠ UiT does not accept direct applications for Erasmus+ grants.


The Nordplus Higher Education Programme supports student mobility between Nordic and Baltic partner institutions.

The programme is available primarily to bachelor's and master's students participating in approved Nordplus partnerships.

How to apply:

Apply through the International Office at your home institution.

North2North is the student mobility programme of the University of the Arctic (UArctic).

The programme promotes academic exchange, cultural understanding, and cooperation across the Arctic region.

Students from UArctic member institutions may be eligible for North2North funding.

How to apply:

Apply through your International Office or North2North coordinator at your home institution.


These grants support exchange and mobility opportunities through specific cooperation projects between UiT and partner institutions.

They are typically available to students from partner universities in Asia, Africa, the Caucasus, and Latin America.
