đ Visa and immigration requirements for incoming exchange students at UiT

Welcome to UiT The Arctic University of Norway!
As an incoming exchange student, understanding Norway's visa and immigration rules is essential for a smooth start to your studies. This guide helps you navigate the requirements based on your nationality, length of stay, and role at UiT (e.g., course-based exchange, trainee for practical training, or researcher such as thesis supervision).
âImportant notes before you begin
- Always start early—visa processes can take several weeks or months (non-EU/EEA nationals).
- Rules can change, so double-check the official Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) website: www.udi.no.
- Arriving without the correct documentation/visa may require you to leave and re-enter Norway to fix your status—avoid this by planning ahead!
- If your exchange is less than 90 days, check whether a visitor visa is sufficient (only non-EU/EEA citizens).
- If you're unsure about the visa option or have questions, email us at mobility@uit.no.
đ§ Check below which category do you belong to:
