Welcome to UiT The Arctic University of Norway!

As an incoming exchange student, understanding Norway's visa and immigration rules is essential for a smooth start to your studies. This guide helps you navigate the requirements based on your nationality, length of stay, and role at UiT (e.g., course-based exchange, trainee for practical training, or researcher such as thesis supervision).

❗Important notes before you begin

  • Always start early—visa processes can take several weeks or months (non-EU/EEA nationals).
  • Rules can change, so double-check the official Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) website: www.udi.no.
  • Arriving without the correct documentation/visa may require you to leave and re-enter Norway to fix your status—avoid this by planning ahead!
  • If your exchange is less than 90 days, check whether a visitor visa is sufficient (only non-EU/EEA citizens).
  • If you're unsure about the visa option or have questions, email us at mobility@uit.no.

🧭 Check below which category do you belong to:

Citizenship Visa requirements What you need to do
