Arctic Future Pathfinders
During autumn 2025, UiT The Arctic University of Norway arranges the student course Arctic Future Pathfinders – A journey through the Northwest Passage.
First part of the course was held onboard SS Statsraad Lehmkuhl, as a part of the One Ocean Expedition. The starting point was Nuuk in Kalaallit Nunaat/Greenland August 5th, and the journey was originally to conclude in Whittier in Alaska October 4th. Now the ice conditions have made it necessary to change the sailing plan. Students and researchers from UiT disembarked in St. John's, Canada. The second part of the course takes place in Iqaluktuuttiaq in Nunavut, Canada and Anchorage, Alaska.
The course is linked to Norway’s Arctic Ocean 2050 initiative and the upcoming International Polar Year in 2032/33, aiming to train students and young academics to become essential Arctic researchers. The 10 ECTS course is focused on inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration competences and anticipatory skills, aimed at master’s students and doctoral candidates.
