CRAFT & ENCODE present: Sleep Dealer (2008)

The research groups CRAFT and ENCODE invite you to Alex Rivera's science fiction movie Sleep Dealer (US & Mexico 2008) at Verdensteatret Cinematek on Tuesday October 28 from 18:00.
Alex Rivera's dystopic vision of economic exploitation and anti-immigrant policy from the US imposed upon Mexico is as relevant in 2025 as it was in 2008.
Memo Cruz is a young man in near-future Mexico. When his family is the victim of an unjustified drone strike, he sees no other option but to head north, towards the US-Mexico border. But migrant workers cannot cross this new border - it is closed. Instead, Memo ends up in a strange digital factory in Mexico, where he connects his body to a robot in the US.
Memo's search for a better future leads him to love, loss, and a confrontation with a mysterious figure from his past.
The screening is hosted by our partners Verdensteatret Cinematek. Jan Kozak from Charles University in Prague, who is a guest lecturer at UiT, will give an introduction before the film.
Film is shown with original speech - Spanish and English - with English subtitles.
