Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing higher education, providing new opportunities to enhance teaching and research. This talk explores best practices for applying AI tools in academic settings. It focuses on real-world examples of how educators and researchers use generative models to streamline workflows - from performing literature reviews and improving academic writing to developing course materials and providing personalized feedback. The aim is to offer a comprehensive overview of how AI can be effectively and responsibly integrated into academic settings to enrich teaching practices and research activities in higher education.
Barbara Sabitzer works as professor of Instructional Technology at the Johannes Kepler University Linz in Austria. With her many years of experience as a teacher for foreign languages and IT, as a psychologist and coach, and as a lecturer in teacher training, she formed the basis for the development of the COOL Lab and the didactic framework concept COOL Informatics. Sabitzer performs research in IT Didactics, Computational Thinking, and Educational Technology including AI in Primary, Secondary and Higher Education.
