🇺🇸 Study and research opportunities at UiT for Fulbright students and scholars
Welcome to UiT The Arctic University of Norway! As a Fulbright student or scholar, you can study, conduct research, or take individual courses in one of the world's northernmost university environments.
UiT offers opportunities across a wide range of disciplines, with courses and programmes available in both English and Norwegian.

This option is for Fulbright students who wish to take individual courses at UiT without being admitted to a full degree programme.
🗓️ Application deadlines
- Autumn semester (August–December)
Application opens: 15 March | Deadline: 30 April - Spring semester (January–June)
Application opens: 15 September | Deadline: 31 October
📚 Find your courses
Course catalogues for incoming exchange and visiting students are published twice a year:
- 15 March for the autumn semester
- 15 September for the spring semester
⚠️ Before browsing courses: Make sure you select the correct semester (autumn or spring) and campus (Alta, Harstad, Narvik or Tromsø).

🇳🇴 Learn Norwegian during your stay (Tromsø campus only)
Fulbright students at the Tromsø campus may take free Norwegian language courses alongside their studies.
- A1 Beginner (0 ECTS)
- A2 Elementary (0 ECTS)
- B1 Intermediate (0 ECTS)
Classes are normally offered during afternoons and evenings.

UiT offers a range of full master's degree programmes taught in English.
Applications for degree programmes are normally submitted once per year, with the admission period opening in November.
ℹ️ Applications for full degree studies are processed by UiT's Admissions Office, not by the Incoming Student Exchange Team.

Fulbright students interested in Arctic studies may apply for courses or research opportunities at UNIS (The University Centre in Svalbard).
📋 How to apply for UNIS
- Apply directly to UNIS: UNIS – The University Centre in Svalbard
- Follow your application at UNIS until you receive an admission offer.
- After you have been admitted to UNIS, contact the Incoming Student Exchange Team at UiT by sending an email to mobility@uit.no. Because UNIS is not an accredited higher education institution, students at UNIS must be affiliated with a university. UiT will register you as a student and issue your official Transcript of Records for courses and examinations completed at UNIS.
⏳ What happens next?
- The Incoming Student Exchange Team will register you as a student at UiT.
- You can complete your studies and examinations at UNIS.
- After your studies have been completed, UiT will issue your official Transcript of Records.
