💰 STEP 1: Transfer proof of funds

Before applying for a study permit, you must transfer the required amount to the student deposit account managed by the Arctic Student Welfare Organisation (Samskipnaden).

Deadline: 1 June

After the transfer has been received, you will receive:

• ✅ Confirmation of Deposit
• ✅ Letter for Visa Purposes
• ✅ Housing Guarantee for your study permit application

📝 STEP 2: Apply for housing

Apply for student housing as early as possible.

🛂 STEP 3: Submit your study permit application

Once you have received your Confirmation of Deposit, Letter for Visa Purposes and Housing Guarantee, you can submit your application to UDI.

If you will study in Norway for more than three months, you must register after arriving in Norway.

1. Create a registration account with UDI:

2. Identify your municipality and study location.
3. Gather the required documents:
   • Passport or national ID card
   • Letter of Admission
   • European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or private health insurance
   • Proof of sufficient funds
4. Book an appointment with the police:

📄 Download the "personal Declaration Form for EUE / EEA national. You need to submit it to the police together with the other dcouments.

Citizens of Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden have simplified procedures when moving to Norway.

🎓 Students with a valid study permit

If you already live in Norway with a valid study permit, you will normally only need to document that you have sufficient funds when renewing your permit.

In most cases, a statement from your Norwegian bank account can be used as proof of funds.

📚 Students who have previously completed a degree in Norway

If you have previously completed a degree in Norway, UDI may request additional documentation explaining why you wish to begin a new programme.

You may be asked to submit:

• A personal statement
• Documentation of previous studies
• Transcript of Records

⬆️ Starting a programme at a higher level

Moving from a Bachelor's programme to a Master's programme is normally considered a continuation of your studies.

You may need to provide:

• Letter of Admission
• Transcript of Records

🎓 Second Master's degree or programme at the same level

If you are starting a new programme at the same level as a completed degree, UDI may require additional documentation explaining why the new programme is academically relevant.

Examples include:

• Further specialization in your field
• Preparation for research or PhD studies
• Improved professional qualifications

You may need to provide:

• Letter of Admission
• Transcript of Records
• Written academic justification

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Students with another type of residence permit

If you already hold a residence permit based on:

• Work
• Family immigration
• Protection or refugee status
• Permanent residence

You do not need to transfer money to UiT's deposit account.

You only need to ensure that your address is correctly registered in the National Population Register.
