Stephanie von Spreter, Ph.d. i kunsthistorie, er forsker tilknyttet Institutt for språk og kultur (ISK), UiT Norges Arktiske Universitet i Tromsø hvor hun disputerte i desember 2024 (lenke til avhandlingen).     Stephanie von Spreter er kunsthistoriker, kurator og kunstkonsulent. I desember 2024 forsvarte hun avhandlingen sin med tittelen Destructed Environments, Gendered Spaces and Colonial Legacies.
    Contemporary Artistic Practices Sensing the Arctic and the Circumpolar North. Von Spreter er medlem av forskningsgruppen Worlding Northern Art, WONA (uit.no/research/wona) og det interdisiplinære forskningsprosjektet Urban Ecologies: City Sensing Beyond the Human initiert av Bull.Miletic (urbanecologies.no). Hun jobber med et pågående samarbeids- og forskningsprosjekt under tittelen Flowers from Svalbard med fotokunstneren Ulla Schildt.

    I perioden 2011-18 fungerte von Spreter som kunstnerisk leder på Fotogalleriet hvor hun har bl.a. vært ansvarlig for kuratering av en rekke utstillinger og seminarer med fokus på kamerabasert samtidskunst. I sin posisjon som kunstnerisk leder har hun også vært initiativtaker til en rekke nasjonale, Nordiske og internasjonale samarbeidsprosjekter og var ansvarlig for å etablere et fotobasert formidlingsprogram på Fotogalleriet. Hun er medgründer av Oslos første utstillingsguide for samtidskunst, Oslo Art Guide. Hun fungerte som prosjektleder for ulike store utstillinger og prosjekter, inkludert 3., 4. og 5. Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art. Hun organiserte det kulturelle programmet for et norsk statsbesøk i Vietnam i 2004 under ledelse av Ute Meta Bauer/Office for Contemporary Art Norway (OCA). Hun var assisterende kurator på 50. Biennale di Venezia og kuratorassistent på Documenta11 i Kassel.
